--Location--
I live in Cali. No, I don't live anywhere near the ocean or Hollywood. ^_^ I live smack dab in the middle of the valley. San Francisco is 2 hours north. Los Angeles is about 5-6 hours south. Have you heard of Fresno? I'm about 45 minutes north of it (just to give you a rough idea).
--My Family--
I think I have a pretty cool family. My mom is Japanese. My dad is Black. I had a 14 year older brother. His name was Jimmy. I also have a pure bred pit bull named Buddy. He'll be 11 on June 30th. I have some relatives from my dad's side in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Missippi, and Illinois. My uncles on my mom's side live in Japan.
My mom was very understanding, forgiving, strong, funny, silly, beautiful, and hard working. She raised my brother on her own in Japan when a single mother like and a interracial child were considered unacceptable and dishonorable. She passed away from her third bout with cancer. She was only 55. She was first diagnosed with cervical cancer. My senior year in high school, she was diagnosed with colon cancer. She had a colostomy and a years worth of radiation and chemotherapy. Then, the cancer had spread into her spine. She died of metastatic cancer of the brain.
My brother, Jimmy, was raised for half of his life in Japan. He owned his own beauty salon up in Bay Area. He passed away a month before my mom did. He was only 33. He died of AIDS complications. While they were both ill and bed ridden, I was taking care of them at home and going to college full-time. I had just turned 20. I miss them a lot.
Now it's just me, Buddy, and my dad. My dad is somewhat the strong and silent type. He's retired from the Air Force after 20 years. He's cool. I like to watch the basketball and football games with him. He likes to hang out with some of my friends. It's a total trip. My friends all call him Pops. LOL
--Education--
I've wanted to do a lot of things from Archaeology to Teaching. I still do. While in high school, I settled on Fashion Design. I've been designing clothes since junior high school. I have a degree in Fashion Merchandising (closest thing my school had). Now, I also have a degree in Early Childhood Education. I've always been interested in school and teaching since I was little. In old base housing, some of us played school and I was always the teacher. I even made report cards and homework assignments for everyone to take home and show their parents. hehehe
--Work--
While in high school, I worked in landscape and gardening. Yep, I was in the F.F.A. (Future Farmers of America). I got a job working in a printshop through my Graphic Arts class. I loved it. I wouldn't mind working in Graphic Arts again. I've worked as a cashier while in college, which wasn't too bad. The people there were really cool. Plus, I didn't have to wear a uniform. *gives two thumbs up* I have taught autistic children for 2.5 years in an Intensive Behavioral Intervention program. Now, I teach a multi-age classroom of 14 students (2-3 years of age), some of which do have special needs. Teaching has been one of the best things that has happened in my life.
--Food--
Hmmm. I do love spicy foods. Anything Italian, Chinese, Japanese, and Mexican I like to eat. I like some Filipino and Korean dishes. You can't beat good old American cooking. I think I like almost any kind of chicken dish. Of course, I LOVE just about anything made of chocolate! Even though this isn't food, I got to have COFFEE! ^_^
--Music--
Music has always been a big part of my life. Being half Black & Japanese, I got the best of both worlds. My mom listened to a lot of traditional and popular Japanese music and also dug American music. My dad grew up on Gospel, Blues, Jazz, R, Classical, Rock, and such. My brother (who happened to be 14 years older than me) listened to the same things and was really into Disco and Funk during his teenage years. I tend to listen to a little of everything like Blues, Rock, Classical, Rap, R, Oldies, Funk, Disco, Alternative, Punk, Reggae, Heavy & Speed Metal, Classic Rock, Techno, Country, Jazz, Folk, and including music from Japan, Korea, Philippines, China, India, etc.
--Movies--
Oh boy. This is a very HUGE list. ^_^ Just as with my love for music, I like various types of movies. If you could see my vast video collection, you'd see how diverse it is. Here are few just to give you an idea. A Clockwork Orange, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Blue Velvet, Suspiria, Lethal Weapon series, The Color Purple, School Daze, X, Bound, Singin' in the Rain, A Chrous Line, A Touch of Evil, Citizen Kane, Dazed & Confused, S.F.W., Buried Alive, Sleepers, An American Werewolf in London, Evil Dead series, Love & a .45, A Low Down Dirty Shame, Altered States, A Time to Kill, Pulp Fiction, Killing Zoe, Before Sunrise, Matrix, Tommy, Easy Rider, and anything with Cheech & Chong, Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Danny Kaye, Laurence Fishburn, Bruce Campbell, Lucy Lawless, Marlene Dietrich, Mae West, Virginia Mayo, Gary Cooper, and more (which happen to be some of my fave actors as well). I like a lot of the old black & white movies. *thinks about putting together a list of all her movies*
--Anime--
There are a lot of people out there who still don't know what anime is. If anyone has seen the likes of Digimon, Dragonball Z, Pokemon, Sailormoon, Gundam Wing, Speed Racer and countless others, that will give you a basic idea of what anime or Japanese animation is. There are quite a few anime fans who may have a problem with me using these examples but it is a fact that these are prime and popluar examples for those who have no knowledge of anime.
There are TONS of anime out there to experience. If any of you who are new to this and are interested, PLEASE don't limit your experience to the examples I previously mention! Just as there is a vast diversity of movies that people like, the same can be said about anime. Whether it's horror, comedy, romance, adventure, action, thrillers, there is something out there for everyone!
I have a vast collection and have been watching anime since I was 2 and living in Wakanai, Japan. Currently, these are my fave anime series that I'm watching which are Fushigi Yugi, Trigun, Slayers, Magic Knight Rayearth, Gasaraki, Nazca, Urotsukidoji series, Magical Twilight, Fatal Fury, La Blue Girl, and more. Yes, I do like hentai (depending on the story and characters).
--Hobbies--
As you can obviously see, I'm into music, anime, and cartoons. I also like to read, draw, and write. It has been a while since I've drawn or written anything though. *slaps her hand* I should be doing that everyday. I also love to watch and play sports. Well, I can't play sports anymore now that I have carpal tunnel syndrome in my right hand due to a car accident I was in back in 1994. I used to play volleyball, baseball, softball, mushball, basketball (sucked at it), and football. But I can still play hackey sack! HACK ON!!! I watch basketball, football, and skateboarding. SKATE ON!!! That was for my buddies Scott, Gene, Kevin, and Jay. Hope you guys get more sponsers man!
--Books--
I like to read, although I haven't been reading as much as I should. ~_~ I have always been into English Literature, but never got into American Literature until I took a Creative Writing course in college. Ms. Calitri was my instructor. As Slater from "Dazed and Confused" would say, "She is one very hip lady." Here are a few of my fave books.
Anything by Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, J.R.R. Tolkien, Anais Nin, Shakespeare, Lord Byron, Wordsworth, Sylvia Plath, Bronte Sisters, H.G. Wells, Scott Cunningham
--Quote--
"I have come to a frightening conclusion. I am the decisive element in the classroom. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or de-humanized."
Dr. Haim Ginott
--Colors--
I usually like a lot of dark or earthy tones. Winter and Fall are my fave seasons. I like black, green, red, blue, purple, fuchsia, emerald, mahogany, brown, maroon, midnight blue, white, orchid, goldenrod, and then some. ^_^
